Magazine Title

Magazine Titles

For the title of my own indie-styled music magazine, I have chosen 'Untouched'. This is because the title 'Untouched' implies that the content I have in my magazine is new and something no other magazine has written about yet. Which will make readers want to pick up the magazine because they will want to read new information for a change. It could also imply that the indie bands I will be featuring are unknown so this will also make people want to read the magazine because they will be interested in finding new music to listen to or maybe read about unknown bands for a change rather than big titles such as 'Kanye West' or 'Adele'. It also shows that the magazine is good at finding decent unknown bands if they are 'untouched' because it means other magazine or labels have not found them yet or written about them.

My Magazine Style

For my main piece, I have decided I will be designing a magazine cover for a indie music magazine. This is because I am a fan of indie music and feel that there aren't that many magazines out there for indie music. I also feel that going for this unique choice in music will allow me to be more unique with the cover design and maybe design it in a way that's different to how most magazine covers are laid out. I wanted to go for a more mature style such as NME and Rolling Stone as I didn't really like the feel of Kerrang!'s loud teenage rebellion. So I have gone for indie music because this is a genre mostly listened to by young adults and adults. I will be using a mellow colour scheme and a plain looking yet eye-catching font. I will choose a magazine title that is unique in its own way and also relates to both the music genre and the readers.

Language Analysis

Language Analysis

Because I am writing an indie music magazine for young adults and adults, I will adopt a language style which is formal and very descriptive. Indie music isn't considered to be listened to by rebelling teenagers so I will not be mentioning anything related to controversy. My language style will include a lot of descriptive language with metaphors, smilies, and a wide range of complex vocabulary. And because unlike pop music, indie music is more about the actual music rather than the celebrity singing it, the article will be about a recent concert and will be written in past tense as though the writer is treasuring the moment.

"I think you should change the title from black to white so it doesn't stand out so much."
"I think you should add some effects onto the writing so they look more interesting."
"I think you should add some lighting effects to the picture to make it look more professional."

Mock Up Cover Preparation

Layout

Document 2

My school magazine is both going to have news of the school and also features that any other magazine would have such as reviews on plays and tips for school. It's going to be coloured in the school's colours and have an image of a pupil on the front. The subheadings will showing what this issue is about and the language will be informal to reach out to the teenage audience. The target audience for my school magazine will be teenagers and parents. This is because a school magazine will mostly be read by pupils of the school and also their parents. This means the language should be both formal but not too complicated as it needs to be understood by children and should mainly include topics of the school since this is why they will be reading this. The front cover design will be colourful with the colours of the school and also eye-catching as a school magazine isn't exactly a topic that is going to catch people's attention very well so having an interesting cover to boost it up is vital.

Magazine Annotation

Preliminary Task Brief

Using DTP and an image manipulation program, produce the front page of a new school/college magazine, featuring a photograph of a student in medium close-up plus some appropriately laid-out text and a masthead. Additionally candidates must produce a DTP mock-up of the layout of the contents page to demonstrate their grasp of the program.
